It was a hot afternoon after school, the perfect day to go for a walk with Alex before his birthday for he loves hot days and should be in a cheerful mood, Joe thought. Recently, Alex invited a few boys to his birthday party, celebrating his 10th birthday this year with his friends. Joe dragged Jack along with him and introduced them. Jack drowsily said hi to Alex and
“Okay then, I’ll come to the birthday party.” Jack replied immediately."
Joe and Alex talked for a few minutes while Jack just stayed behind them. Then to Alex and they had a short talk before Jack said he had to go home and ran back.
Joe said he needed to go too and hurried after Jack to the bus stop. He then ran back to school to look for him. He finally found Jack in the canteen talking to a few friends. He was actually talking to the school’s most malicious bullies, Nathan and Jacob.
Joe hurried back behind a bush, thinking “What is he doing with some gangsters like them? That isn’t possible! ” For a second, he wanted to scream at him and tell him to come but what if the bullies beat him up? So he just sat there and watched.
“The usual. Fake lizards and anonymous presents with spiders inside” Jacob replied
“Good. Alex humiliated me before. You remember that I was always top until that fool beat me? He is going to have it.” Jack said.
“Yeah.” Nathan replied, smirking. Joe was very sad, how could that be possible? His best friend a bully? Joe quickly sneaked away and went to the library and wept. “Why?” He thought. “Why must it be me?” He wept there silently and thought of a way to stop them. After thinking for some time, he thought that he would wait and
The next day, Joe stared at Jack for a long time. When Jack looked at him, he turned back quickly. “What’s the matter?” asked Jack. “Nothing.” Joe replied. For a whole day, he waited to see whether Jack would repent. But there was sad look on his face except he heard him laughing to himself during recess. When Joe asked him what the joke was, he quickly stopped laughing saying that it was nothing and it would not amuse Joe.
Just than, Jack came and asked him why he was crying. “Nothing. Joe replied. Jack comforted him and tried to cheer him up by telling him jokes.
After he got hold of himself, Joe told Joe to go away. Actually he was just trying to think of a way to stop him from going to the wrong path. He could just be quiet but then his heart said no. He could either tell his mother, Alex or just talk to him. “But there no knowing what will happen if I talk to him. He could ask those bullies to beat me up and anything.” Joe thought.
Then a thought came to his mind: Why he just foiled the trick on the day itself? He decided for it and waited for the time to come.
On the day itself, Joe was ready. He would first tail Jack then take away the present and then switch the party bags with the ones he himself made and throw the others away. If he failed, he would just tell the birthday boy and risk losing his friendship with Jack.
So after school, he asked Jack if they wanted to follow Alex home first to the party venue but Jack said that he was too busy to come. So he just followed Alex to his house and waited. When Jack arrived, he gave the present to Alex and I took a peek in it— there were 2 spiders inside the box. Joe took the present away and then went downstairs to check the party bags.
At about 3 p.m., an hour before the party started, Joe saw somebody putting the fake lizards in. After he went away, he quickly took the fake lizards out and threw them I the dustbin. “Oh, trying to disrupt our plans eh?” A voice said. He looked behind and saw his worst fear, Jacob.
He ran for his life, up the stairs and back to Alex’s house. He quickly told Alex the situation and he asked his parents to check. When they came up, they asked Jack to come in front. At that spot, Alex’s parents scolded him until he started crying and was sent home. The party continued without any further disruptions but Joe tried to comfort Jack but Jack said that he would not need Joe’s useless comforting and that they would not be friends any more. Joe argued and said it was for his own good but Jack did not care and their friendship was lost forever.
From that moment on, Jack always blackmails Joe but he does not mind as he knows that he did the right thing.
Comment from Jeremy:
The story could have a better ending than just them breaking up their friendship. Also, two spiders in a box are practically useless in scaring people, unless they are the gigantic type like tarantulas. The prank needs to be more realistic. Maybe cockaroaches would do? I changed a spelling error
Comment from Wui Seng: No one takes much care of lizards, right? The usual thing to do would be just to use a rolled up newspaper and whack the lizards dead. Try cockroaches and mealworms. Also try adding an earthworm.
The story is good though.

Jim, you forgot to complete a sentence after Joe cried. "he thought he would wait and...". also, there is a typo after Jack told Joe jokes to comfort him. "Joe told Joe to go away".also "he could either tell his mother...":who is "his"? another thing, "he gave the present to Alex and I took a peek in it" where did "I" come in in the compo?

i Agree with Jermy and Wui Seng, although i guess any creepy crawly is okay in a made up composition. besides, Alex is only 10
